Drug wars in Mexico and revised US drug policy
As President Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderón meet in Washington, the drug cartels continue their terrorist war with the Mexican Army and just about anyone else in Mexico, including Americans. Meanwhile the new US “drug czar” announces the administration’s new National Drug Control Strategy, which seems little changed from past efforts and has disappointed those hoping for a bolder shift toward prevention and treatment. Dr Inaba offers comments and stresses the need for more resources for treatment, education and “demand reduction.”
