Dr Carl Hart, professor of psychology and psychiatry at Columbia University, has been featured recently on PBS and a story in Time, talking about his controversial research into the social, environmental factors of addiction. His new book High Price: A Neuroscientist’s Journey of Self-Discovery That Challenges Everything You Know About Drugs and Society, details the research, and also his life growing up around addiction in the tough neighborhoods of Miami. We discuss that along with other traditionally accepted factors, such as a person’s genetics, and function of the brain.
