Medicines that were very popular in the eighteenth, nineteenth, and early twentieth century that promised cures for almost any ailment. They often contained opium, cocaine, marijuana, and alcohol. Their unregulated distribution was responsible for the creation of thousands of opium, morphine, and cocaine abusers and addicts.
