The emotional center in the central nervous system’s midbrain. It includes the amygdala, hippocampus, thalamus, fornix, mammillary body, olfactory bulb, and supracallosal gyrus. It sets the emotional tone of the mind, stores intense emotional memories, alters moods and emotions, controls sleep, processes smells, and modulates the libido.
