It can of course be a treacherous time for addicts and those in recovery. It also brings forward again the idea of addictions to foods. And caffeine – a known addictive substance – is now being put into candies intended for kids, like Cracker Jack and Jelly Bellies. We discuss these trends and ideas, and also note that the Minnesota Model – one of the oldest treatment models in the country, is for the first time tentatively allowing alternative, replacement therapies, such as buprenorphine to be used rather than being adamantly strict about abstinence.
