An alcoholic who has quit drinking but is not in recovery; craves alcohol constantly and generally has alcoholic personality traits such as insensitivity to others, a rigid outlook, dissatisfaction, and a lack of insight or self-examination but has learned to resist the impulse rather than change the lifestyle.
