Smoking in public place is seeing increased government restrictions, and individuals, groups and the tobacco industries are pushing back with legal actions. Meanwhile the anti-smoking medication varenicline, sold under the trade name of Chantix, has been found to have serious cardiovascular side effects. Does it outweigh the danger of smoking itself? And addiction treatment faces a new conundrum, with the state of Oregon mandating that smoking within sight-range, or even smelling of tobacco will disqualify you from state-supported programs. We explore the issues.
